Standing on Sacred Ground

What: The premiere of Sacred Land Film Project’s new four-part documentary film series profiling indigenous communities and their sacred sites around the world Standing on Sacred Ground

When: Tuesday, October 15 at the David Brower Center in Berkeley, California

Join us at the Brower Center’s Goldman Theater for screenings of all four films in the Standing on Sacred Ground series throughout the day.

Afternoon Film Programs:

Program 1
12:00 p.m. – 2:50 p.m. Pilgrims and Tourists & Profit and Loss

Program 2
3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Fire and Ice & Islands of Sanctuary

Tickets: for the film screenings in the afternoon are: $10 for each program/$5 students.

Please join us for a very special evening reception in the Hazel Wolf Gallery and screenings of two of the four films in the Goldman Theater

Tickets: for the Special Evening Reception and 2 Film Program are $100

About the Films

Episode 1: Pilgrims and Tourists

Indigenous shamans of the Altai Republic, Russia (southern Siberia) and a Northern California  tribe find common ground resisting government megaprojects.

Episode 2: Profit and Loss

From Papua New Guinea to the tar sands of Alberta, Canada, native people fight the loss of land, water and health to mining and oil industries.

Episode 3: Fire and Ice

From the Gamo Highlands of Ethiopia to the Andes of Peru, indigenous communities protect  their sacred lands from development, competing religions, and climate change.

Episode 4: Islands of Sanctuary

Aboriginal Australians and Native Hawai‘ians reclaim land and resist the erosion of culture and the environment.
