Ann Arnold is a local still-life painter. Her garden has many interesting forms of vegetation that she uses for inspiration. Her current focus is oil paintings on walnut panels. In 1992, she illustrated Alice Waters’ Fanny at Chez Panisse. Her picture book biography of a 19th Century French chef, The Adventurous Chef: Alexis Soyer, was published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2002. Her most recent book, for young adults, is Sea Cows, Shamans, and Scurvy: Alaska’s First Naturalist: Georg Wilhelm Steller. She has had exhibitions at numerous galleries in London and the United States. She is represented by the North Point Gallery in San Francisco.
