Rocky Mountain Summit: Sustaining Ecosystems and Their People

The UN General Assembly has declared 2002 the International Year of
Mountains. (We’re quite certain there has never been an International
Year of Molehills, but we don’t want to make a fuss.) The Rocky
Mountain Summit will promote the wellbeing of mountain peoples and
cultures, and the ecological significance of the mountain ecosystems.
ECOFEST2002

The East Coast’s largest environmental event will feature the SEOTO
Alternative Vehicle Parade, ECOFEST Environmental Conference,
ECO-Fashion Show, Eco-exhibitors, two solar powered stages of
entertainment and the ECOWALKATHON for Environmental Education.
Continental Bioregional Congress
October 7 to 13, 2002
Camp Wood, Kansas
The event will bring together 350 activists, scientists,
environmentalists and others who are committed to societal change and
environmental restoration.
The congress will facilitate leadership development, and empower and
educate participants through workshops, full group plenary sessions,
and council and committee meetings.
National conference of the Society of Environmental Journalists
October 10 - 13, 2002
Baltimore, Maryland
This conference, open to Society members and non-members alike, allows
an opportunity to meet with environmental journalists, attend panel
sessions, and join workshops designed to enhance writing skills and
knowledge level of environmental issues. Emphasis is on improving
quality and accuracy of environmental reporting.
Green Festival
November 9 - 10, 2002
San Francisco, California
During this event, the first in the series, Global Exchange hopes to
build networks among green and fair trade companies, while exposing the
general public to a wide range of economic alternatives, including
green careers.
Sustainability Book Club
Second Wednesday of every month
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Eco-minded Minneapolitans (Minneapolissians? Minneapolites?) bring
their Minneappetites to enjoy a tasty meal at Ecopolitan, a 100 percent
organic vegan raw restaurant and eco-shop. Afterwards, the group
discusses a pre-determined book with an ecological theme. RSVPs are a
must.

World Summit on Sustainable Development

It’s been 10 years since the United Nations Conference on Environment
and Development (Earth Summit 1992). Representatives from political,
financial, corporate, and private interest groups from around the globe
will converge in Johannesburg to assess progress on proposals and
initiatives developed a decade ago.

The focus of this conference will be the implementation of Agenda 21, a
blueprint for strategies to handle the major social, economic and
environmental problems facing the planet. Topics include:

This symposium will explore the interrelationships between the
environment, tourism, and recreation, with specific emphasis on the
impact, management and planning issues associated with the use of the
natural environment for tourism and recreation. Open to all concerned.
